Ministries and Programs

American Sign Language (ASL)

For many years, Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church has offered an ASL Interpreted worship service. At the moment this ministry is on hiatus as we are looking for interpreters who can serve on a regular basis. Here at Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church, we feel that this is an important service to our congregation and community. The team will help to find our next set of interpreters, so we can once again offer ASL interpretation every Sunday, as well as for all of our special events.

Community Support

Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church supports Courage MKE, which is a diverse group of allies and members of Milwaukee’s LGBTQ+ community who are raising funds and awareness for LGBTQ+ youth in Milwaukee. They work to sustain the Courage House – a drop in home with onsite support for LGBTQ+ youth that have suffered mental or physical abuse, have no means to support themselves, and/or need a place to temporarily call home. Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church helps with their winter clothing drive, supports their annual fund-raiser and is a community sponsor of Courage MKE.

Congregational Care Team

The Congregational Care Team’s role is to provide care and outreach to members, regular attenders and visitors alike. We do this through:

  • Contacting members and visitors on a regular basis via calls, cards and/or emails.
  • Visiting members and friends who are shut-ins, hospitalized or have special needs.
  • Maintaining a weekly email prayer chain which consists of the prayers, concerns and joys of our congregation.
  • Providing Sunday worship greeting and welcoming, and hospitality after the service.
  • Providing welcome packets every Sunday containing information about Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church for first time visitors.
  • Educational opportunities to help and enable volunteers with visiting, praying with and reaching out to those with special needs.

CLM (Creating a Life that Matters)

Creating a Life that Matters is a three-course curriculum which explores ways to rediscover relationships with the Sacred, with one’s Self, and with one’s Passion. These three courses correspond to the spiritual experiences of being changed, gifted and called.

Graduates of Creating a Life that Matters are challenged to broaden their understanding of all that is Sacred, to integrate their self-awareness into being authentic, aware leaders and to live their passion intentionally through the life and work of the church.

Creating a Life that Matters integrates art, scripture, music, film, journaling, and diverse spiritual resources to augment exploration of the Christian path.

The course is a dynamic, thought-provoking and emotionally significant way to stretch spiritual boundaries and create an opportunity of getting to know God and the Spirit.

CLM transforms lives and inspires people to a more directed, clear, passionate involvement in their lives and in the life of the planet.

Fundraising Team

Leadership within Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church organizes several fund-raising activities through-out the year, which affords members and friends the opportunities to become active in helping the church to reach its yearly financial goals.

Major fund-raising events include the Annual Anniversary Cabaret and Silent Auction, the annual Summer Rummage Sale, Monthly Script Card purchases, bi-monthly “Brunch with the Pastor” and a quarterly Showtunes & Raffle fundraiser.

Opportunities exist to develop additional fund-raisers that combine social interaction and spiritual outreach to the communities that Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church serves.

Helping Hands Ministry

The Helping Hands ministry is a ministry within Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church that coordinates and enables members and friends to volunteer and participate in local food pantries, shelter and meal programs and other special programs in the Milwaukee area that serve those in need. Currently Helping Hands provides donated items to our Community Partner, VIVENT Health through our Pack the Pantry Program, which collects needed food and household items to help stock their food pantry.  We also hold special collection drives for our Community Partner, COURAGE MKE, by collecting items for their Courage Kits for Youth and Annual Winter Madness Clothing Drive, which collects winter wear for our homeless LGBTQ+ Youth. Members involved in this ministry have a passion for helping others and encourage that passion and participation within the congregation, members and friends.

PrideFest Team

Every June, Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church gears up for participating in PrideFest MKE. As a church, we maintain a booth in the Health & Wellness area of PrideFest, hold a special Sunday Pride worship service and march in the PrideFest parade. We especially make the effort at this time of year to be Visible and Proud of who God has created us to be.

We greet and welcome a diverse crowd to our booth and provide opportunities for visitors to discover what Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church is all about – to ask questions about our community, our faith, our affirmation of God’s love for all and our outreach. We encourage everyone from our congregation to join us in the celebration of Pride and in the celebration of faith!

POZ Spirit – HIV/AIDS Ministry

This ministry offers spiritual and emotional support to those living with HIV and AIDS through a non-judgmental, confidential and Christian group setting once a month. Team members may or may not identify as living with HIV/AIDS, but should be accepting of, and open to supporting those who are, in a confidential setting. Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church believes in helping those who are suffering or rejected, and believes in offering hope, understanding and love to those who may no longer experience any of those things in their lives due to HIV/AIDS and the stigma that comes from it.

Prison Ministry

The Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church Prison ministry is an outreach program designed to have written correspondence with people who have been incarcerated and need a friendly, understanding and platonic connection with someone who is Christian and LBTQIA+. The Prison ministry offers hope, Christian friendship and a listening ear to those who have very few options for support.

Stewardship Team

This team is primarily responsible for encouraging regular financial giving (tithes), participation in the life and work of the church (time) and sharing of one’s gifts and abilities to enrich the community, our worship and each other’s lives. It takes more than a few people to help keep Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church operating, out-reaching and thriving. With God’s love and the Spirit’s help, this team invites members and friends to fully participate in the life, work and ownership of the church. The Stewardship team helps enable people to support this congregation, to keep our mission alive and to keep our doors open to all.

TRANS*MKE Ministry

This ministry offers spiritual and emotional support to those who identify as transgender through a non- judgmental, confidential and Christian group setting, that meets once a month in a confidential setting. Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church believes that all God’s children are created and accepted for just who they are, and believe in offering hope, understanding and love to those who may have been oppressed from society, by standing with one another in support of our transgender siblings.

Worship & Music Ministry

This team helps to incorporate music and scripture into worship in a meaningful way and helps to plan and develop worship themes through-out the church calendar year. The team strives to incorporate a variety of music styles and backgrounds into worship and looks at diverse worship themes providing a meaningful, uplifting and unique worship experience every Sunday. We recognize that there are many different backgrounds and worship styles that people have experienced in their lives and pulling music and meditations from this diversity enriches the worship experience.
