In response to the announcement made this week from Archbishop Jerome Listecki’s policy and new guidelines that require parishes, schools, and other Catholic institutions to “recognize only a person’s biological sex,” the following statement has been released from Metropolitan Community Churches, including Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church in support of ALL OF OUR TRANSGENDER SIBLINGS, regardless of your faith tradition or beliefs.
Milwaukee Metropolitan Community Church, along with ALL Metropolitan Community Churches Worldwide, welcomes and affirms any individual who have been disenfranchised by this policy and any policy that oppresses or shows negativity towards our Transgender siblings.
For Immediate Release:
The Archdiocese of Milwaukee (Wisconsin, USA) recently issued guidelines for how the diocese and its parishioners are to treat transgender individuals, insisting that only “biological sex” be recognized.
The policy dictates that pronouns are to match gender assigned at birth, and that restroom and uniform accommodations are to similarly align with biological sex.
“This policy takes no account of the experiences of transgender Catholics and their individual struggles with gender identity and faith,” said Rev. Elder Cecilia Eggleston, moderator of Metropolitan Community Churches – a denomination that welcomes, affirms and ordains transgender people. “It’s unfortunate that Milwaukee’s archbishop has chosen this course, when Christians around the world are becoming increasingly accepting of LGBT+ people, including trans folk.
“Milwaukee MCC and, indeed, MCC churches around the world, will welcome those disenfranchised by this policy, and all who seek a community of Christian faith that accepts God’s children as they are.”
